I must make a Nile denial as this is a tidal pond in Lowcountry South Carolina. Note the pyarmid amid the Live Oaks and Palmetto trees, a place of profound peace.

Such A Drag

Such A Drag
Originally uploaded by PALMETT0.

Poised in front of the Lowcountry Dragway, we're contemplating a return for the Top Gun Shootout whilst dreaming of the checkered flag. They have their own EMS crashwagon and a playpen for the kiddies. Who could ask for more ?

Distinguish Gentlemen

Distinguish Gentlemen

We're in front of a barber shop on Cannon Street. One of a vanishing breed of colorful independent local businesses. Finding such gems is part of the reason for this blog. Soon all will be swept aside for faceless chain stores so I want to find and document all that I can.

Not bragging about performance, but parked in front of the " SUPER BAD " clothing store on upper King Street, Charleston, SC. Herein, we see that "bad" is actually "good".

The GT is posed beside what appears to be a spent rocket from NASA which seems to have landed with little fanfare just in front of a church on a South Carolina secondary road, the location of which cannot, of course, be disclosed.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Is the GT trying out for a part in the remake of GONE WITH THE WIND ? Nope, alas this not Tara, but the Southern exposure of the Northern Navy's Commandant's humble abode at Charleston.

Windveil Blue goes well with Fire Engine Red in this shot taken at the North Charleston Fire Department's Jenkins Avenue Station. I obained the permission of the FD as well as that of their mascot (foreground) to park briefly in this vacant bay. This station guards the center of North Charleston's rebirth, an ambitious renovation of it's original main street, which is well on it's way to recapturing the close sense of community in it's business district.

Power House

Power House
Originally uploaded by PALMETT0.

I'm not bragging on the 300HP 4.6 Liter V8 with which the 2005 GT was born. The building behind it was once the Power House which generated electricity for a military base at Charleston, SC, and is so marked over the entrance.

Alpha Quarters

Here the GT suggests the American occupaton of some foreign palace perhaps guarding the entrance to a casino at Monte Carlo. It is, however, perched at the west entrance to the Commandant's Residence ( "Quarters A" ) of the US Naval Base at Charleston, SC, now sadly abandoned, but hopefully to be restored to elegant lodging.
